About this site
What it is
Solitario Napoletano is a small collection of patience games that you play in the browser. Four of them are built for the 40-card Italian deck, which is rarely used for solitaire; three are well-known games on the 52-card French deck.
The games run entirely on your device. There is nothing to install and no account to create.
How the deals are checked
The game engine includes a solver: a program that plays a deal through, looking at every card including the hidden ones, until it finds a win or runs out of its search budget. The daily deal, every numbered deal and – where the option is on – every new deal in the smaller games is one the solver has won.
A won deal by the solver means a winning line exists. Because the solver knows the hidden cards, you may still need foresight or the undo button to find it.
The four Italian-deck games
Volcano Eleven, Seven Alleys, Two Balconies and Hillside Steps are adaptations of well-known solitaire ideas to the 40-card deck. Their details – the number of free cells, stock passes and columns – were chosen by measuring with the solver how often a deal can be won, so that the games are neither hopeless nor trivial. They are not presented as traditional Italian games.
